Pretty fired up for this. I am a big Tim Burton fan. If you get a chance check out Shelly Duvall’s Fairy Tale Theater’s Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp directed by Burton. It is really fantastic and entertaining. Also, Planet of the Apes sucked ass. Other than that, i like all his movies in some capacity.
I’m excited for this to a degree. It’s not based on the Alice books. It takes place after she’s grown and somehow forgotten her previous adventures in Wonderland.
There’s also a shot of Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts.
I want this to be brilliant, magical with lots of Burton trademark creepy. The remakes Burton has directed have been horrible. Apes was worse than shit and Wonka had glimmers, but was ultimately glimmery shit. Both should have been slam dunks.
I have no doubt that it will be visually stunning.
Random commenter here, but is it just me or does something about Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter remind you of Madonna? Seriously, I’m not even trying to make a joke here. The first time I saw it I was like, “Whoa, Madonna went way out there for her next look.”
I was just thinking that this morning, oddly enough. In fact, my exact thought was, “If Madonna and Michael Jackson had a baby, it would be that creature.”
I’ve just created a post on my blog http://dougbond.wordpress.com regarding which Johnny Depp movie’s are people’s favorite’s. I loved “Public Enemies”, but it was hardly his best movie…actually, I tend to think that some of the least seen movie’s he’s made are perhap’s some of his best…”The Libertine” come’s to mind. In any case, let me know what you think and if at all possible, post some link’s on my blog to some interesting Johnny Depp info…alway’s a fan of JD! Thank’s!

Is it me, or does Helena Bonham Carter play the same character in EVERY film she has EVER been in?

You hit the nail on the head, Decker. I hated “Apes”, and “Wonka” was just eh to me. It wasn’t horrible, but I was disappointed.
And no matter who Helena Bonham Carter plays, I still want to sleep with her in “Fight Club.” And give her a bath. But mostly sleep with her.

Why not both – at the same time even!

OH MY GOD! YES!

It’s his teeth and smile that really remind me of Madonna in that photo for sure.
