Part of me wonders if this wasn’t a giant asshole of a publicity stunt by Doug Christmas. I mean, if Banksy isn’t officially claiming it, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the dude that took it just copies Banksy’s style to get attention, then removed it so he’d get even MORE attention. Think about how many people have now seen his name and phone number because of this.

Yeah, that’s one of the theories.
The other is that he worked WITH Christmas to have it placed there, as if he possibly “bought” it before it was produced.
I’d like to think that he just left it there and some money-hungry douche took it for himself. Kathy calls me an idealist, not a realist.

So was that Banksy on canvas and placed on a wall? Doesn’t seem too “street” to me to do that. Not that I’m knocking his art or skill. I was just under the impression that he actually places graffiti art on walls in the traditional way. Please let me know more.

The Banksy piece was spray-painted stencil directly on a brick wall. The “PARKING” was there beforehand, and then he covered the “ING” and spray stenciled the girl on the swing.
The Shepard piece is screenprinted wheat-paste posters that he then puts up. I could be wrong but since that piece is so massive and (I’m assuming) took a lot of time, that was probably either commissioned or at least he had permission to do it.

Oh shit, I just realized I was talking about a different post. ANYWAY, THIS piece was on a wall that someone then cut out and took to sell. It was on the inside of a foundation wall, and they cut it out away from it. If that makes any sense.

Ok. It just looked to me like while they were moving it, there was rippling as what would happen to a canvas or some sort of flimsier material than that of a foundation wall. It could be the light. I would rather the owners of the wall cover it up with white wash than sell it to a gallery/art dealer. That would make sightings and the art itself much more rare and exciting. More of an experience than a sight seeing opportunity.
